How To Utilize Verizon Email Headers
There are over 183 billion unwanted junk and spam emails sent every day around the world. With so much clutter sent through via internet email routers, even the most sophisticated spam blocking technology from web-based services cannot stop them all. Some spam messages do get through to an inbox. What can you do when unwanted email hits your inbox and you want to know who sent it?
What Are Email Headers?
Header information is helpful in determining a number of bits of information. Determining a sender's email, IP address, domain, and location are possible through headers. Email headers are also utilized in webmail software to help users organize and sort email in their inbox.
A header contains the information about a computer and user who sent the message. An sender's email address can usually be found, along with a sending domain and specific computer IP address. All of this information can be helpful in tracing an email.
How Verizon Utilizes Headers
Verizon webmail service is provided through Yahoo!. Thus, Verizon provides a trusted and reliable email interface and features to its customers. Header information is used by Verizon Yahoo! Mail to help sort and view email messages, though only compact information is used and viewed at once.
The Verizon Yahoo! Mail inbox shows emails sorted by the following header information:
- Subject
- From address
- To address
- Date received
Any opened email will show this compact information at the top of the message. The header information can be used to store a new sender into a user's contacts.
Viewing Full Verizon Email Header Information
If more than what is shown in the compact header needs to be seen, a user of Verizon Yahoo! Mail can easily pull up the full header from an email. Users simply click open an email, then click the "Actions" button at the top of the email, and then click "View Full Header." A popup window will display the full header information without opening a new window. Users can quickly and easily scan the header database for the information needed and then close the popup window, or simply click "OK."
Email headers are necessary for computer-to-computer communication and routing. While just a few lines of a header database are needed to organize and sort mail, Verizon Yahoo! Mail also allows users to get the whole header picture when they need it.
