You have a few free tools available for your convenience to search using just an email address in order to find who has set this up. Don't allow unidentified emails haunt you or cause you stress. This search doesn't have to cost you a dime and can very easily help you track down the face behind the email. Email is a wonderful device, but it can quickly become annoying if you are inundated with messages that you did not solicit. These messages often cause a waste of precious time deleting them as well as headaches trying to figure out whether you need to deal with them or not.

Here are some suggestions to get you started:

Look through old email messages. They may have already emailed you at one time, or if you have received a group email, this person may be in it. Simply click on a name, and a little square with a person's head pops up. Click on the down arrow, and, by the "Send mail" option, you will see the address. While this might take you awhile, it could be worth it.

Key in the email address in Google.com or Ask.com and see what pops up. You will be surprised at what these search engines are capable of producing. If it doesn't yield a name, it may direct you to somewhere that will. Sometimes searching by these means is like being on a scavenger hunt. One clue can easily lead you to another.

Go to Yahoo or other major sites to use their free search services. A large population of email users has their email accounts here. If you are a member, they allow different ways to search for other members at no charge. Some, but not all, allow searches by email.

Try emailing them to see if they will reveal who they are. If not, you probably don't want to communicate with them anyhow. If the email is suspicious enough to seem like a scam, you can flag it for the email company to investigate. Typically, they'll have a "flag this as spam" function.

Look in your contact list for the same name: For example, if the one you have is jdoe@gmail.com, you may find a jdoe@hotmail.com. People may change their email provider, but oftentimes they keep the same i.d. There are many reliable email search services online that do reverse email searches. While some of these may charge a fee, they sometimes offer one search for free so you might as well take advantage of this.
