Contact Your Congressman
With so many issues going on in the country right now, you may be feeling some unrest about what the future holds for you and your family. You may even feel that the people you have elected into office are no longer listening to the concerns of the U. S. citizens. Perhaps you have concerns with the new congressman you may or may not have voted for to represent your state in Washington. Whatever may be occupying your thoughts, remember the United States has an open government, and you as a citizen have a constitutional right to be heard. One way to exercise this right is by emailing your congressman through the contact directory that is provided on the federal website.
Someone in the huge maze of the federal government has realized how important it is to allow complete and open access to all levels of officials. It has never been easier to locate and contact your congressman. On the website, www.usa.gov, there is a specific link for citizens to access the congressmen directory. This navigates you to a Write Your Representative page where you can select your state, then enter your zip code, and click on the Contact Your Rep. button. Based on this information, the next thing you will see is a form that identifies who it found as your congressman and several boxes where you are required to supply your name and address. In addition, you can also put in your phone number and email address if you choose. The button at the bottom of this will give you a space where you can type your message and send it. That is all there is to it!
While it may take awhile before he/she responds to your question(s), this is probably the best way to get their attention. If you provide an email address, this is more than likely how they will answer you. If not, you can expect a letter or a phone call if you entered your number in the form. If you do not get a response within a reasonable time, you should not just assume that they are ignoring you. As with everything, sometimes things just get lost in the shuffle, especially if you consider they probably receive a huge volume of emails on a daily basis. Since they have created such a convenient method of communication, your voice is important to them, so try again.
